Behind the Scenes of American Standard HVAC Diagnostics: The Technician App
Learn how American Standard HVAC remote monitoring and HVAC diagnostics tools help improve your service experience, keep your system at peak performance, and keep you comfortable.

By Anne Fonda
You love the feel of a cool blast of air when you come inside on a hot summer day, or the warmth you feel when you come in after clearing snow off your driveway. You have your HVAC system to thank for that.
But what happens if there’s a problem with your heating and cooling system? Do you wish there were a way your HVAC company could fix it remotely without you having to take time off work or sit around waiting for a service appointment? Good news - there is. That’s what American Standard Diagnostics and the Technician App are all about.
What is American Standard Diagnostics?
American Standard Diagnostics is a proprietary application and smartphone app. It’s an added feature you can opt into through the American Standard Home App when you connect your smart thermostat.
The Diagnostics technology allows your American Standard dealer to monitor your HVAC system remotely. This remote monitoring is similar to how a security company monitors our home security system.
Once you opt in, your American Standard smart thermostat sends data about your HVAC system’s health to your dealer in real time. If they spot a problem or get a system alert, they may ask for one-time permission to enable Dealer Remote Access (DRA) to start an HVAC troubleshooting session and fix the problem remotely if they can.
It’s like how a remote IT person would request remote access to your work computer, poke around to see what’s causing your issue, and then download new drivers or uninstall/reinstall a program to fix the problem.

If they determine you need an on-site visit to replace a part or do further troubleshooting, your American Standard dealer will send an HVAC technician to your home. They’ll arrive armed with the information gleaned during remote troubleshooting and have the right parts and supplies on hand.
Please know that at the present time, this service is only available with American Standard smart thermostats and not any other brand of smart thermostat. For your convenience, we have smart thermostats that are compatible with non-American Standard systems. For instance, the Gold 824 smart thermostat is compatible with virtually all conventional HVAC systems and is Home App-enabled.
What is the Technician App?
Each American Standard HVAC technician has the American Standard Technician App downloaded on their smartphone. The step-by-step processes in the Technician App can help them provide accurate and efficient HVAC installation, HVAC diagnostics, and HVAC repairs, ensuring a smooth HVAC service visit.
The Technician App ensures technicians have secure access to customer data and enables real-time monitoring of system alerts, improving diagnostics efficiency. American Standard continually updates the app to improve performance and resolve any bugs, to ensure that technicians always have the latest information.
So, what’s in it for me?
American Standard Diagnostics and the Technician App have revolutionized HVAC system diagnostics and repairs. As long as you have an American Standard smart thermostat and you’ve enabled diagnostics in the Home App, you get proactive service and peace of mind.
"Leveraging American Standard Diagnostics, dealers can provide a holistic analysis of your HVAC system before arriving to your doorstep. Technicians are prepared for an efficient repair, and with tools built into the Technician App, you can trust that your tech will restore your comfort quickly and without the unexpected costs."
– Carla Kandalaft, Associate Product Manager for Residential HVAC Software.

The bottom line
- HVAC remote monitoring helps ensure system issues are spotted before they become big (and expensive) problems.
- Dealer diagnostics tools mean faster, smarter services, helping you avoid time off work or annoying interruptions in home comfort.
- HVAC technicians arrive at your home prepared with insights and solutions, meaning shorter, more efficient service calls.
In addition to alerting your American Standard dealer of system issues, dealer diagnostics will also notify your dealer when it’s time to schedule regular HVAC maintenance. Regular maintenance can help your HVAC system run more efficiently and can even extend the life of your system.
